Dear brothers and sisters,

The governor of the state of Tennessee has signed an executive order regarding the pandemic virus Covid-19, which prohibits social gatherings of 10 or more people, and which strongly urges that we remain at home so as to prevent the spread of the virus. We ask that the faithful of St. Petka church adhere to the dictates of the governor, and do all within our power to protect ourselves and those around us.
With the blessings of our Bishop, church services will be held as scheduled; i.e., Holy Liturgy, Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts, and Vespers. They will take place in the presence of the parish priest and cantors (pojci), only. We shall try to do live streams on our Facebook page so that each of you, in your respective homes, may prayerfully be with us.
This difficult decision is the right thing to do for all of us. We ask your understanding. As the Serbian Orthodox elder, Tadej, said, “Obedience is greater than fasting and prayer.” With the blessings of the church, we must stress that, until further notice, services may be attended by only the priest and cantors. The rest of the faithful should light their icon kandilos, and adhere to prayerful rituals, including reading the morning and evening prayers. We ask that you increase your prayers to include all the people of the world who are potentially exposed to or suffering from the Covid-19 virus. We also pray for the medical personnel who are putting their own lives at risk so they can help those most seriously impacted by this disease. When we do something with prayer it is for our own spiritual benefit as well.
In extenuating circumstances, if you wish to receive Holy Communion in your homes, or if you wish to speak with your priest about complex issues, or in regard to your spiritual life, I request that you contact me at any time, day or night. I, your parish priest, am here for you. You may always count on your parish priest to pray for your physical and spiritual well-being. May Almighty God grant you health and salvation, and the strength to endure this truly unprecedented situation.

Your in Christ Fr. Aleksandar Vujkovic
